business---obx-visitor-bureau-007

Well, unless I haven’t got it right, I think the Outer Bank’s Main Attraction are the incredible Beaches … There is something relaxing to the Body & Soul when you smell the Salt Air, stick your Feet in the Warm Sand, and swim in The Atlantic Ocean … and if you calender it just right, the warm Gulfstream Waters.

When you have had your fill of Sun and Sea, or you hit a cloudy/rainy day you may want to visit …

The Currituck Lighthouse is a Must See Destination … be sure to climb the Interior Stairs all the way to the Top & take in the natural Beauty of Corolla and the Outer Banks.

The Wright Brothers Memorial in Kill Devil Hills with visitors center. This is the site where Orville and Wilbur Wright flew their Wright Glider – check out the Wright Museum & Monument … During the Season the NC Park Service will have an interpreter onsite who will provide the Audience with the exciting details leading up to the First Successful Flights!

As a Teen, I remember running down Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head with the family (including friends), sweating in the Heat of the Summer Day, then my forward motion going faster than my Feet, and then, well, you know, I fell and rolled and rolled, covered in Sand. It was in my ears, my nose, my mouth, it was everywhere! The Price of Entry into the Family vehicle at that point was a dip in the Ocean! Check out Kitty Hawk Kite Events – including Hang Gliding on Jockeys Ridge! The Sunsets over Croatan Sound, and more!

As mentioned previously, you will also want to see the Elizabethan Gardens and The Lost Colony in Manteo. This past Winter the Elizabethan Gardens dressed up for the Holidays and Offered a wonderful Magical Christmas Tour! The Lost Colony Play is the longest running Outdoor Drama in it’s 66th season. Andy Griffith, who currently resides in Manteo with his wife Cindi, began his acting career when he portrayed Sir Walter Raleigh during the 1948 Season.

When in Manteo, visit The Waterfront, and Roanoke Island Festival Park with it’s Indoor Theater and Outdoor Amphitheater with Summer Season Concerts … the North Carolina Symphony is a Favorite! Many of these functions are a slight fee, or Free!

The Younger kids will get a charge out of the North Carolina Aquarium with it’s huge Tank, and be sure to pet the Stingrays.

If you like Fishing, be sure to visit the Pirates Cove Marina, and/or the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center … in Summer, the Boats will usually return to the Docks around 3-4pm … be there to see the Catches of the Day! … A Friend of mine landed a 226 Blue Fin Tuna this last Sunday – took 3 guys working the reel and about 2 hours of solid muscle! Or, Visit The Many area Fishing Piers – I like teh Privately Owned Piers, but you can’t miss a Visit to the New Jennettes Oceanfront Fishing Pier in Nags Head!
